A WORLD OF OPPORTUNITY

Imagine not being able to read these words. Imagine going through life without the pleasure of the printed page. Read 2 Me wants every child to know the joy of reading.

The ability to read is essential to success in school, and in life. Help us give the children of our communities the foundation they need for success. Join Read 2 Me as we create a literate world.

Hints about helping emerging readers:

- Tell your baby where their elbow is, where there knee is…

- Sing songs to a toddler.

- Turn off the television.

- Read to a child 20 minutes a day.

And as they get older:

- Read with a child 20 minutes a day

- Tell stories to a child, and listen  when they tell stories to you.

- Turn off the television.

- Give children access to the magical world of books. Take them to the library, or a bookstore. Always have books where they are able to reach them.

And for everyone, of every age:

- READ, READ, READ!

SHARE YOUR KINDNESS

APPRECIATION!

TPU (Tacoma Public Utilities) has awarded Read 2 Me™ a grant for $5,000! TPU is a long time supporter of Read 2 Me™, giving us not only much needed funding but the time and talent of their staff for tutoring the children of Pierce County. Members of the TPU staff have worked for many years as a part of our organization, helping the children to read and succeed. They have touched the lives of many children and their families, continuing to offer possibilities for them through the power of literacy. We thank them for their continued support!

Thank you, thank you, thank you to the Franciscan Foundation, who have been with Read 2 Me™ since the beginning of our program some 21 years ago. They began the program in McCarver Elementary, and have been with us through the years as we changed from SMART, to Werlin, and finally to Read 2 Me™. Through the generosity of the Franciscan Foundation, we have been able to continue to bring our program through the end of this year, and they have given us the opportunity to grow in the future. Our history and our future owe much to the Franciscan Foundation, and we are so grateful for all they have done to help us shine!

BOYS AND GIRLS CLUB

Construction is well under way on the Gig Harbor’s Boys & Girls Club, the Jim and Carolyn Milgard Family HOPE Center. The new center will offer a safe environment where children can play and be safe. The Boys and Girls Club not only offer sports programs, but access to arts and computers as well.

Read 2 Me™ is proud to be a part of the Gig Harbor Boys & Girls Club. When the doors open on this wonderful addition to the Gig Harbor community, Read 2 Me will be there to offer reading support to the children. We are excited for this opportunity to share the joy of reading with this section of Pierce County. Thank you, Boys & Girls Club, for all you do for America’s youth!
